Joshua (1832-1919) operated a store in Clymer (NY) in 1859. He moved to Salt River, now Shepherd (Mich.) in 1865, the year he married Wealthia Moore (d. ca. 1917). They had three daughters: Myrtie, Iola, Iva (Ivy), and a son, Jedde. Joshua operated a store in Shepherd until 1895 called J. Upton & Sons, dealers in general hardware, paint, tile, and fencing.
